As a Product Design Consultancy based here in the UK, we meet a lot of entrepreneurs who are extremely creative and motivated. They have many chances of developing their business and changing their lives. Throughout the poorer countries there are many entrepreneurs who are equally as creative and motivated but they can struggle to get just one chance to develop their business. Being a part of the Lendwithcare initiative means that we can be that chance and we can help people to change their lives.
HDPL Director Chris Howsam says “In poorer countries there are almost none of the financing opportunities we in the more affluent West take for granted and so I have supported Lendwithcare for three years to give practical support through lending money and reinvesting the repayments into other businesses. There is a universal desire to build a business and this can be stimulated by a relatively small amount of investment. What might not seem like a great deal of money to us can make an enormous difference to those entrepreneurs trying to start up or develop a business in the poorer parts of our world”.
During these unprecedented times, it is even more important to help these individuals as Covid19 ravages their economies and reduces their opportunities still further.
Chris continues “The coronavirus pandemic is impacting heavily on the developing world. There are no ‘furlough’ schemes or self-employment support packages available to workers in these areas, so support through Lendwithcare is more important than ever. I feel humbled by the fact that even in these unprecedented times, these entrepreneurs are supporting their own communities with much needed services and doing well enough to repay their loans."
“To date, we have made loans of around £1200 and these include a collective of 21 women in Malawi, who run a variety of clothing and food stalls. They required support to purchase materials, rent land and market their businesses. These are all fundamental activities unavailable to them but with the support of Lendwithcare they have a great chance”.
Chris pledges that the money that is repaid will always get loaned to other entrepreneurs and so the cycle of support will continue.
We would urge any of our industry partners to sign up and support the Lendwithcare initiative and to do something great.
