Hillside’s Managing Director Chris enjoys the dynamics of two dogs at home and at work and when the time felt right, after losing beloved Gizmo, he and his wife, wanted a companion for Gadget. Gadget is their second Collie and he came from a working farm. They know that farm dogs are bred as working dogs and would therefore be hardy and intelligent. So they waited until the word came that a farmer had a litter and was putting the pups that would not be trained as working dogs, up for adoption.
Last Sunday Chris and his wife went to view the litter and the parents. What a lovely location, in the middle of nowhere with sheep in the distance, and mum and dad genuinely loved and well-treated. It was not difficult picking out Gauge. He is going to be tri-coloured with eyebrows and cheeks already showing a light coffee colouring. Four weeks old and making excellent progress.
The Hillside team can’t wait for the next month to pass and then we hope to share some of his growing up in the office and at home.
Why would a design consultancy write about dogs?
The answer to that is it’s part of the life and work balance we as a company strive for.
The office can be a tough place to be in. Deadlines, pressure of budgets and tough projects all take their toll. Office dogs bring their own energy, and they are a constant presence as they move around between everyone, saying hello, snuggling up under the desk and barking at the delivery men who walk in without using the doorbell.
Dogs are intuitive and they know when it’s tough for you. They sense the right time to drop a head in your lap and they definitely let you know when you should take a break. A walk outside in the fresh air, works wonders for getting perspective on things. Its not all fun; there are accidents and barking when you could really do with the peace and quiet, but would we have it any other way? Absolutely not!
