Thousands flocked to Teignmouth’s sea front by The Ness, to watch and support this famed seaside spectacular in one of the biggest briny dips in the country on Boxing Day to raise funds to support the RNLI.
Amongst the throng of mermaids, pirates and plenty of the notorious renditions of Wally, Greg, a Senior Designer here at Hillside Product Design could be found braving the chilly waters. A regular at this annual event he has helped raise invaluable funds for the RNLI.
Greg, who returned to live and work in his home town after graduating, spent much of his childhood in or on the water – swimming, in his rowing boat or fishing. Today Greg still finds time to be out in his boat and has recently being enjoying the delights of diving. It was only last month that he shared some wonderful video footage of seals playing hide and seek with him under The Ness here in the sea at Teignmouth.
Living on the coast he is all too aware of the dangers the sea represents.
‘I have grown up with the knowledge that the RNLI are here to save lives at sea but this is only made possible by fundraising, donations and people giving up time to help by volunteering. I am on and in the water a lot so to me it only makes sense to do my bit when I can’.
‘Both of my parents also support the RNLI throughout the year by helping out with fundraising events. I have yet to persuade them to join me in the sea on Boxing Day. They seem happy to provide their support from the relative comfort of the shore’.
Company Director, Chris Howsam, a RNLI volunteer for several years who continues to support the RNLI through his charity work was delighted with Greg’s festive antics and also that of his son, Alex who also braved the waters here on Boxing Day.
