Let’s look at that light bulb image, can it truly be applied to both a ‘brilliant idea’ and ‘innovation’ ?
An idea, is just that, an idea which can be bad or good. It can be perceived as being creative or inventive but we would argue it is not innovative on its own. It can certainly be a sudden revelation like when a light is switched on; so we can understand that a light bulb is a good metaphor for creativity and ideas. Innovation is not a light bulb moment, it is the process that makes that light bulb moment a reality that shines brightly.
Innovation is therefore about being able to take an idea further, finding new opportunities and ways of implementing strategies to make an idea not only work, but to surpass anything that has been done before. Innovation is therefore much more than that light bulb moment.
