The client is a manufacturer of energy saving products, particularly in the lighting industry. There is a need to automatically control lighting so that it is only operating when somebody is occupying or passing through a particular area. The client met with Hillside Product Design and we agreed a concept design based on fitting into a hole cut using a standard hole cutter. This would enable the controller to be sited in ceiling panels and retrofitted into existing lighting products.
Hillside Product Design continued to develop the concept to accommodate a range of different IR lenses to make it adaptable for use in several other mounting situations.
The housing features a screw thread along the body that allows a ring to clamp down behind the panel that the sensor is being mounted through. Several prototypes were made using our 3D printing facilities and this allowed the client to test the product in many different applications prior to committing to manufacture.
Hillside Product Design prepared 2D control drawings and 3D CAD files and controlled the manufacture of the tooling and component sampling at all stages through to signing off the final samples ready for manufacture.
