This project was commissioned by a leading manufacturer of UHF radio paging systems. Their requirement was for the design of a personal alarm pendant type transmitter to be used by elderly or vulnerable patients in hospital and in residential care as part of a nurse call or carer call system. The pendant would be used to raise the alarm in the event of a fall or when the button was pressed or the neck cord was disconnected. The pendant was designed to be easily used by people with arthritic hands and other dexterity problems but without causing false alarms through normal body contact. The enclosure is waterproof and allows wearing during showering and bathing.
The product was engineered to achieve great strength and withstand abusive use which can be expected with some users. The pendants are inductively programmed before despatch and contain a replaceable long life battery for several years use.
Hillside Product Design developed the product from the first concept sketches through prototypes and through to manufacture sign off.
