The client is one of the world's leading full service suppliers of integrated and automated material handling and logistics solutions. The project involved a fact finding mission to a large retail packing facility to see first-hand some of the issues involved in working at a high capacity packing workstation.
The design brief was to prepare concept designs of a workstation with improved ergonomics for handling tote crates and ‘puts’ into tote crates. The final concept featured several innovations including tilting the tote crates towards the worker to improve access, a space saving spiral chute and improving the ‘look’ of the workstation for a softer and less harsh environment. The clients own engineering department developed and implemented the concept.
