The client is regarded as leaders in Electronic Assistive Technology (EAT), Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) and Environmental Control Systems (ECS). They had obtained the rights to this product through a strategic business acquisition.
Evaluation of the product showed that certain aspects of its mechanical design needed to be improved. These related to the main unit docking reliably into the charger dock and improving clarity of the acoustics.
Hillside Product Design were unable to secure any of the CAD data and in order to proceed made a highly accurate 3D survey of the parts and reviewed the original injection moulding tool and its construction. This allowed us to prepare new CAD data and to propose practical and cost effective adjustments to the tooling which resulted in the desired performance. CAD data was issued to the toolmaker along with detailed instructions describing the adjustments to each necessary tool part. The improvements gave this product several more years of service in the market place.
