The client is an award winning designer and manufacturer of UHF radio systems. The brief was to liaise with the client's electronics and radio engineers to design an intelligent Docking Station for a new generation Pager which was currently in the middle stages of development.
The new Pager would incorporate several innovations including infra-red programming and rechargeable battery technology. The Docking Station would incorporate several innovations including a strobe beacon, audible alert, dry-contact output and vibrating pillow pad connector. The docking station is also PC compatible and can be used to programme the Pager.
The Pager/Docking Station combination is primarily used to alert ‘sleep-in’ staff such as carers/firemen/doctors or the hard of hearing to emergencies when they are asleep. The Docking Station was developed in several stages including sketches, CAD visuals, rapid prototypes, user testing and approvals testing. The mould tools were manufactured from 3D CAD data and 2D control drawings.
