The client is an award winning fine artist and inventor of novel and intuitive toys for children. He approached Hillside Product Design after finding that his design intent was being lost by manufacturers overseas. He was keen to ensure that his original vision for the toy construction and appearance was preserved so he tasked Hillside Product Design with creating CAD models from his handmade prototypes and the parts produced by his original factory.
Hillside Product Design used a combination of traditional metrology and cutting edge laser scanning to recreate the toy mechanism and face in CAD. This CAD data enabled the client to approach factories and licencing agencies with comprehensive design specifications and 3D models which could not be misinterpreted. Hillside Product Design were also able to use the CAD to produce multiple versions and iterations of Intellectual Property illustrations, meeting the exacting standards required by international patent authorities to protect the unique mechanisms.
The client has now entered a partnership with an influential licencing company, culminating in the release of a range of toys into high street and online stores, as well as a mini-series of CGI animated cartoons.
