The client is a UK-based manufacturer of motor starters and industrial energy saving products. They had previously been purchasing and modifying an off-the-shelf enclosure to house control panels and keypads for one of their products. This enclosure was soon to be discontinued, so the client required their own version which assembled and mounted in a similar way. The client also wished to take the opportunity to tailor the design to their needs, in order to remove the need for CNC machining processes to create apertures for access and display.
Hillside Product Design used samples of the discontinued parts and the electronics housed within, and worked with the client to create breakout features which enable assembly operatives to quickly snip out blanking areas dependant on the variant of the housing required. The break-out areas are then further split apart to be used as retaining features for a TFT screen.
Hillside Product Design created a comprehensive manufacturing specification which was distributed to the client for them to arrange production with their approved suppliers.
