Water Resistant Livestock Lamp

The client is an expert in agricultural technology who works to improve the efficiency and productivity of livestock farming. They have lighting products which are innovative, robust, energy efficient and easy to install.

The client required a review and modification to be made to an existing product to help improve its resistance to water ingress. Existing manufactured parts were inspected and a course of action was decided upon that would aim to be quick and a minimum of additional cost. The primary modification that was implemented was to provide additional ingress protection using overmoulding of a soft TPR. The overmoulding would be an addition to the existing mouldings. Hillside Product Design worked in cooperation with the clients preferred manufacturers to explain the modification, make sure it was understood and check it was correctly implemented. The overmoulded seal was designed and data was issued to the manufacturer so that they could prepare the overmoulding tool.

Samples were received from the manufacturer and checked. After advising a few small modifications to the overmoulding tool the client was able to receive new parts which passed their chosen water ingress testing. Hillside Product Design were pleased that we could help implement a low impact solution which provided the required functionality and represented a reduced cost and lead time for the client.
