The client, Regler Ltd wanted to extend their use of an existing LED PCB assembly to create a glowing heart that could be manufactured in relatively small numbers with custom branding for each end user. The client was unsure about the overall size and Hillside Design worked closely with them to experiment with materials and prototypes to decide on a size and glow lighting effect.
The hollow heart shape was designed for slush moulding (low cost rotational moulding process) and incorporated an injection moulded PCB holder/back plate. The design was prototyped using 3D prints to confirm the fit and function of the electronics within the assembly as well as the size and appearance.
Hillside Design worked with both sets of toolmakers to oversee the tool design, tool build and sampling. Physical samples of parts were reviewed and reports prepared.
