Custom Routing Machine

The client is a well-known UK designer and manufacturer of lightweight exhibition systems. They commissioned Hillside Design to design and produce a routing machine that would allow them to safely, quickly, and accurately fabricate two slots into each end of a custom aluminium extrusion.

Hillside Design based the machine on a standard woodworking router and designed a double port arrangement which allowed the worker to insert the part being fabricated with one hand while operating the router with the other. The routers own plunge mechanism was set to allow the slot depth to be easily controlled.
