Fog Sensor

CLIENT: Air Quality Control System Manufacturer

INDUSTRY: HVAC

The client required a weatherproof fog sensor as part of their range of air quality control systems. The client established that there were commercially available optical sensors which could be used with reflectors as a way of measuring the amount of suspended particles in the air. However, these sensors required extremely accurate alignment with their reflectors and this became progressively more difficult as distance increased.

The client approached Hillside with their problem, and we devised a pan and tilt micrometer adjustable mounting for the optical emitter/receiver module. The mechanism incorporated coarse adjustments to get on target quickly and then fine adjustment to get dead centre.

Hillside provided comprehensive 3D and 2D manufacturing data and a pilot batch was manufactured. The feedback from the pilot batch testing led to the client asking Hillside to optimise the design for larger scale manufacturing. Hillside worked with the manufacturing partner to deliver a pre-production run and worked with the clients engineers to sign off the manufacturing specification.
