The brief for this project came from a company who sell laundry products. Their flagship product is used by being put into the wash with the garments. Pellets contained within the product release cleaning agents during the wash cycle.
The outer shell of the product is constructed from two halves and the client was experiencing problems with the product coming apart during the wash. It was discovered after testing that the bayonet features securing the two halves were not strong enough to resist being released when it had become wrapped in heavy, water-logged items of clothing during the wash.
Hillside Design was commissioned at this point to address the problem and redesign the product to ensure that it would stay closed during washing. A selection of concepts were prepared using client-supplied CAD files of the existing product as a starting point. The final design was developed and tested using Hillside Design's in-house 3D printing facilities. CAD data and 2D control drawings were then handed over to the clients preferred manufacturer for production.
