The client is a well-known name in the toy industry with a heritage of making die cast vehicles. The brief was to brainstorm and prepare concept designs for a transportable, multi storey car park play structure which would fold out to create a play area for die cast vehicles.
The client was presented with sketch concepts and one was developed to an actual size model of the toy in card to confirm the overall size and features. This was approved and the design was developed to a full working prototype featuring open and shut injection moulding components which was used as a copy master with accompanying control drawings.
The product went into manufacture and two seasons later the client requested that the design was refreshed for its third season to coincide with the launch of new ranges of garage & recovery, military, construction and emergency services vehicles.
The original components were converted to solid models for 3D CAD and then dressed to create four new concept multi storey play structures including a car service centre, building site, hospital/rescue centre and a war zone. The concepts were presented as colour images from many different views to explain all the potential features that could be included.
