The client is a long established manufacturer of electric fencing products. Hillside Product Design was commissioned to design and develop a ‘live fence’ tester for use on electric fence lines and tapes and to determine any breaks in continuity and earthing.
The first task was to come up with a method of contacting the wire with the device in such a way as to allow the user to test the line as safely as possible, including during extremes of weather.
Concepts were prepared as sketches and refined as CAD models. One of the product's innovations is the sweeping LED scale to show the line voltage as an easy to read analogue display. Designs were selected for ergonomic testing as block models and a chosen design was refined using fully working prototypes. Parts were manufactured from CAD data and control drawings with full support for the toolmakers up to signing off.
