The client is an award winning designer and manufacturer of UHF radio systems. The brief was to liaise with the client's electronics and radio engineers to design a versatile enclosure that would future proof the client's enclosure requirements for several years.
The first stage was to meet with the development team and estimate the occupancy of each possible combination of modules. These were converted into simple CAD building blocks which could be manipulated into different arrangements and concluded with a system layout and a minimum size envelope.
The concept design stage progressed with a mixture of concept sketches and CAD assemblies until a mechanical design based on a common chassis and over moulding was agreed upon. The design was developed in several stages beyond this and included PCB module footprints, CAD visuals, rapid prototypes and approvals testing. The components were manufactured from 3D CAD data and 2D control drawings.
The enclosure is suitable for use as a fire panel, security panel, nurse call system, plant monitoring, paging system and many others and can accommodate battery backups, mains power supplies, extensive RS232, RS485, USB and other comms combinations.
